2011 NARENWICH Conference

Wisconsin's state chapter of NAREN held their seventh conference at Steven's Point Holiday Inn on March 3rd and 4th. About 170 earnest educators of at-risk youth came from all parts of Wisconsin to attend their upbeat and enthusiastic 7th annual conference.

The culmination of the conference is the granting of the Anthony Dallmann-Jones Advocacy Award. This year it went to a Seymour, Wisconsin, business — the Seymour Lumber Company. Dwight and Sherri LaMarche and Seymour Lumber Company were nominated by Seymour Alternative High School teachers, Lyn Buchmann and Bob Bock, for the statewide award for their generous support of all students in the Seymour Community School District. Buchmann cited the company's policy of providing discounted lumber and supplies for individual building projects and the high school musical; their support of school and community activities such as athletics, 4‑H, and Habitat for Humanity; and their willingness to provide jobs to high school students. Dwight LaMarche was recognized for his ability to build relationships with young employees as they learn the expectations and responsibilities of their jobs. The Anthony Dallmann-Jones Advocacy Award is given annually to recognize the efforts of community members who make a major contribution to the education of at-risk youth.
